The NETCARE 911 Staffs Hunger was Scooters Pizza’s Emergency
With Easter having claimed 151 lives on South Africa’s highways and byways, this was a busy period for the Netcare 911 staff as they tended to all the holidaymakers and worshippers’ emergency needs.
As part of their commitment to safety on South Africa’s roads, Radio Kragbron once again hosted their fourth Easter Rescue Helicopter Project from the 9th to the 14th of April. As part of their project, 120 Netcare staff were based at the helicopter base, which was stationed at the TRAC N4 Middelburg Toll plaza. This project ran from 08:00 to 18:00, which added up to 10 hours of straight duty for all the lifesavers from the ambulances, fire and traffic department, SAPS Highway Patrol and the helicopter crew.
When Val Shanahan from Scooters Pizza Witbank heard about the project, she knew immediately that she wanted to get involved. As such Val and her team at Scooters Pizza helped feed the medical and support personnel on Saturday, 11 April with a pizza meal and cool drink to make sure that they energy levels were kept up. Val personally delivered the meals so that she could thank all the hard working staff.
“This is a project very close to my heart because I previously ran a private hospital for 16 years so I am acutely aware of the essential services that these men and woman provide for those in need, especially over the Easter weekend. We as the community need to continuously support them in their fantastic efforts and the sacrifices they make to be out on the roads,” says Val.
Scooters Pizza Witbank is not just involved in this one project, they have a firm belief in supporting their local community. As such they are involved in many of the local schools as well as the SPCA but the Easter Rescue Helicopter Project is definitely the biggest they have done so far.
