Taste Holdings
Taste Holdings’ Food Division, of which Scooters Pizza and Maxi’s are subsidiaries, took time away from the demanding industries and got hands on in an educational camping weekend for underprivileged children, in association with the Just Footprints Foundation.
The Just Footprints Foundation, founded in February 2008, provides a unique opportunity for children to experience an amazing life-changing adventure and learn new skills, develop confidence and enhance their self-esteem in a supportive fun camp environment. As a newly identified corporate social investment initiative for Taste Holdings, the ‘Taste Camp’ held at the Dinokeng Big 5 game reserve this weekend included fun-filled activities for children from the SOS Children’s Ennerdale Village and St Mary’s Children’s Home in Johannesburg.
The overall camp theme focused on the five human senses – taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing – which were integrated into enjoyable learning activities. These included ‘fun in the sun’ games such as soccer, netball, tug of war, three legged races as well as educational and entertaining game walks and drives.
Exciting food activities were made available by Maxi’s on the arrival night where everyone creatively built their own delectable burgers before lights out. The following day, team work showcased truly artistic pizza makers as Scooters Pizza provided the ingredients for an imaginative lunch.
“Sponsoring the children’s weekend away was a rewarding experience for Taste Holdings as it is more than purely providing a monetary donation. Maxi’s and Scooters Pizza staff, including their families, donated their personal time to interact with the children and ultimately create a day filled with fun, happiness and affection,” says Christo Calitz, CEO Taste Holdings – Food Division.
Calitz concludes that the initiative complements Taste Holdings corporate social investment goals, “Our business relies on the buy-in and support from the communities that surround our stores, therefore it is of great importance to be seen as the kind of company that gives back in a fun and interactive way.  Our goal is not to change the world, but ensure that there are children in the country who know that we care.”
