Richard Shows the Signs of Success
Name: Richard Dolamore
Location: Central Cape Town
Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose your franchise?
I wanted originally to be part of a larger international group with a proven track record, and Signarama ticked all these boxes. With international training in an exciting ever changing industry, the work is challenging and interacting with clients exciting.
What did you do before taking up a franchise?
I had my own tour operator business but the September 11 disasters effected us badly.
How did you raise the finance?
Through a silent partner / investor
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
Two weeks in Florida and two weeks onsite support training at the new location
What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
Crazy days really …. production meeting every morning, sales meeting and / or catch with sales staff, meet clients and check quotations and manage raw material stock levels against orders placed.
What challenges have you faced?
Cash flow, BEE, corruption when dealing with governmental departments and recently higher transport costs that have effected pricing
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Running a Signarama forces you to manage every aspect of business from sales, to marketing, customer relations, accounting, production and installation. I now have the tools to run and manage any business of any size.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
It takes a 1000 days to get comfortable in any new business and don’t expect to take a pay check home at first.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to expand my business interest into central Africa
Would you do it again?
I already have, this is my second Signarama franchise.
