Pizza all Round, the Ovens are Hot!
You may have heard a lot about the arrival of two international Pizza brands recently. Both brands, Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza’s spokespersons mention their intention to stir things up a little, while making mention of existing Pizza brands in South Africa concerning issues such as quality, service, delivery, innovation etc.
One of those existing brands is Debonairs Pizza with 23 years of history in South Africa. The brand, as voted by the South African public has been voted as the leading quick service restaurant pizza brand and have, over the years won many accolades for quality, service and innovation. The brand has also won many industry awards as a Franchisor.
Their attitude to competition, which they have experienced throughout Famous Brands’ 50-year trading history, and prospered despite it, has always been that they welcome the contest but that none of their hard-earned market share is for sale.
Not so long ago Carlo Gonzaga of Taste Holdings expressed ambitious plans for the pizza market with Scooters Pizza; he has subsequently publicly stated that he now plans to convert all of their Scooters Pizza brand franchised restaurants to Domino’s Pizza.
And joining the pizza category is Mr. Randall Blackford, general manager of Pizza Hut SA, part of the Yum! Brands group.
Debonairs says they will fight with every ounce of our resolve to protect not only their Debonairs Pizza market share, but also, and just as importantly, protect every single one of their franchise partners who have invested in the Debonairs Pizza brand.
