Lady proposes in Krispy Kreme Rosebank this Leap Year
This February 29, 2016, Krispy Kreme played host to a traditional leap year proposal, when Binet Jordaan took the plunge and asked her boyfriend of five years, Wade Randall, to marry her amongst the warm, comforting aromas of freshly baked doughnuts at the Krispy Kreme flagship store at The Zone in Rosebank.
The young couple met in their hometown of Welkom at a friend’s braai back in 2010, and, since then, they have overcome challenges of living apart, first when Wade went to live in Queenstown, and now, as Binet has moved to Johannesburg to work in a nail salon, leaving Wade back in Welkom.
“It has been hard being apart,” says twenty year-old Jordaan, “But we know that we need to be where the work is for now, and that we will always find a way to be together in the end.”
Jordaan had never been to the Krispy Kreme store, but when she mentioned to a friend that she wanted to propose to her beau, and the Krispy Kreme flagship store was suggested, she decided that it was an excellent idea.
Much to the delight of the young lady and the discreetly supportive staff, the proposal went off without a hitch. “Even though I know that we are meant to be together, I was still so relieved he said yes,” laughs Jordaan. “I haven’t yet allowed myself to think about or plan anything beyond that.”
Kreme South Africa CEO, Gerry Thomas, expressed his excitement for the couple, saying, “The warm, soft and happy feeling that you get when you bite into a doughnut is not unlike the feeling of being in love, which makes a doughnut shop a wonderful place to be romantic. We are honoured that Binet chose our store as the setting for this special moment and wish them a happy life together.”
Although the couple have not yet selected a wedding date, Krispy Kreme South Africa has offered to sponsor their wedding reception cake. “This is such an overwhelming gesture,” says Jordaan. “We don’t have a lot of money, so having Krispy Kreme take charge of our cake will really help to make our wedding day better than we could ever have hoped.”
