By the time you read this, the International Franchise Exhibition (IFE) 2007 will virtually be upon us. Those of you who have booked an exhibition stand will know that it runs from May 3-5 2007 at the Sandton Convention Centre. But even if you are not an exhibitor, if you are a franchisor or consider franchising your business in future, you should come and check it out. You will see first-hand why the IFE has evolved into South Africa’s ‘ and Africa’s premier franchise exhibition.
It regularly attracts over 100 exhibitors and around 10 000 visitors, including individuals from neighbouring states looking for opportunities. A highlight of this year’s event is the presence of a group of franchisors from the US who are looking for master licensees.
whichfranchise.co.za will be there!
By the time IFE 2007 opens its doors, whichfranchise.co.za will be exactly one year old. Our website was launched at IFE 2006, and we have grown dramatically since then. Last month, we recorded 52 038 page impressions ‘ an all-time record for us at the moment but, if recent developments are anything to go by, this record is set to tumble pretty soon!
Encouraged by last year’s positive response, we will be exhibiting again. To give visitors who have not experienced the functionality of whichfranchise.co.za before an opportunity to explore the site’s magic on the spot, we have equipped our stand with an internet link for live access to the site. And of course, members of our team will be there to answer questions about South Africa’s premier franchise opportunities information website.
As a value-add for visitors to our stand, we will have franchise experts on hand as well. They will answer any franchise-related question you may have.
Introducing Which Franchise?
We wanted to mark whichfranchise.co.za’s birthday in an appropriate fashion and thought long and hard how to achieve this. In the end, we decided to launch a printed version of whichfranchise.co.za, with some extra bells and whistles added. Research conducted throughout the year revealed that South African consumers, although web-savvy, prefer to supplement information they extract from the Internet with material in hard copy format.
Following the same policy that has been applied successfully in building the whichfranchise.co.za website, Which Franchise? contains a comprehensive listing of qualified franchise opportunities. The emphasis is on qualified because the franchisors we list are either members of the Franchise Association of Southern Africa (FASA) or have been vetted and approved by Absa.
However, Which Franchise? is much more than a mere listing of franchise opportunities! It offers information of interest to prospective franchisees and franchisors as well as several useful checklists. Of specific interest to prospective franchisors will be the list of 12 questions that will help them determine whether their business is ready to be franchised.
For our advertisers, Which Franchise? is an additional and highly credible conduit for information about life as a franchisee, presented in the form of case studies. An entire section of the directory has been devoted to this. For example, the current edition features case studies dealing with 14 South African franchise companies, including several master franchisees. The case studies variously describe the workings of the business and/or relate real life experiences of franchisors and franchisees drawn from a wide variety of industry sectors.
The case studies bring some of the many opportunities franchising offers to life, and encourage readers to find out more. This is an excellent mechanism for franchisors who want to attract prospective franchisees by ‘telling the story behind the story’. This section can also be used to give an outstanding franchisee some well-deserved exposure while building the brand at the same time.
The book’s appendix contains a directory of franchise terms and a listing of resources, including details of other websites dealing with franchising.
Visitors to IFE 2007 have an opportunity to obtain Which Franchise? long before its official release, which is scheduled for July 2007. From then onwards, Which Franchise? will be available at CNA stores country-wide. Franchisors who sign up as advertisers on the whichfranchise.co.za website before the end of May will be represented in the printed version as well, at no extra cost!
We look forward to discussing this further with you at the stand.
