Mila’s story and vision began when Charlotte Khoza and Annemarie Mostert identified the inequality prevalent in the cleaning industry as well as the lack of stability and growth for the many workers. In 2012 they embarked on a journey with determination to right the disparities and to change the foundation on which the soft services industry operates. They run Mila Services with this same passion and purpose to disrupt, create change and empower the working poor.

Finance Details

  • Joining Fee: R90 000
  • Management Service Fee: 3% of turnover
  • Local Marketing: 1% of turnover
  • National Marketing: 1.5% of turnover
  • Administration Fee: 5.5% of turnover
  • Operating Capital (Initial Working Capital): R20 000
  • Setup with x1 workstation including initial equipment, chemicals and brush ware: R20 000
  • Total Excluding Vat: R130 000

The Tandem Franchising Model

The ‘tandem franchising’ model overcomes these difficulties. Here’s how this works:

  • The franchisor tenders for and secures a major cleaning contract with for example corporates for the commercial, industrial and or retail sectors.
  • The franchisor then divides this work amongst a number of franchisees.
  • Because the nature of the contract, the client (corporate) will enter into a contract cleaning agreement and pay the money directly to the franchisor.
  • The franchisor has a franchise agreement with the franchisee.
  • The franchisor will do the administration for the franchisee and pay the balance to the franchisee.
  • The franchisee will then pay their specific expenses (such as office rent, motor vehicle) and retain the balance as profit.
