King Delivery – My First Franchise
Name: Daniel & Lerouxna Maritz
Location: Worcester, Western Cape
Franchise: King Delivery Worcester
Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose your franchise?
We decided on a franchise for the initial reason of taking an established brand and introducing it in an area where there was a need for it. After doing some research, we decided on the King Delivery Franchise due to the low initial franchise purchase cost, the low start-up capital needed and the ease of running a nearly no paperwork business with low overheads and no stock holdings.
What did you do before taking up a franchise?
We were both self-employed entrepreneurs.
How did you raise the finance?
We had some money saved up for “a rainy day” and decided to make the money work for us, hence the buying of a franchise.
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
The initial training received was all from the Franchiser directly, and although we are in the Western Cape far away from the head office, we had constant help via telephone and Skype calls.
What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
A typical day includes the monitoring of the online ordering system, contacting customers and restaurants, liaising with clients and marketing of the franchise.
What challenges have you faced?
The most challenging stage of the start-up was to negotiate with the restaurants for the commission structure. Some restauranteurs were a bit hesitant to sign up due to previous bad experiences with private delivery people having defrauded them before, however after they realised there is absolutely no risk for them as restaurant owners, they became very eager to sign up. The other holdup to start off was that in some cases it took some time for the restaurant owners to present the concept to their own franchises and to get feedback and/or approval to sign up with us.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Yes it have. Since we started up the franchise recently, we had success with the business, and have the freedom to be working from home and have more time for our family.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Definitely look into King Delivery as a franchise opportunity, it is really a low cost, low maintenance business opportunity. Perseverance is in fact the key to making your franchise a success.
What are your plans for the future?
Our plans for the future will be to expand the King Delivery name in the Western Cape by buying more franchise branches in other areas, thus expanding our business.
Would you do it again?
Most certainly! After we had to move due to personal reasons from our initial region, we gladly went through the whole start-up process again. We enjoy running our own franchise and would love to do it all over again when we start to expand.
