Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose your franchise?

I wanted a growing, flexible, innovative franchise brand and 3@1 was just a perfect fit.

What did you do before taking up a franchise?

I worked in a corporate environment for the past 15 years. I’m a qualified Company Secretary.

How did you raise the finance?

Own finance.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?

1 week at an established store then 1 week on site.  Ongoing support is available whenever needed and other franchisees have been very helpful and always willing to give advice and guidance.

What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?

The days are not the same and unpredictable so as the customers we meet every day. Initially when we just opened, we counted a high number of foot print in our shop but were mainly customers doing one or two copies. In the weeks after, our customer mix has changed with other tenants and small businesses in the area using our services.

What challenges have you faced?

My team and I are all new in the retail environment, therefore we had to learn to be faster, accurate and deal with a diverse type of customers who are not always patient.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?

Yes, I’m learning new things every day and from being an employee for many years to be an employer, a shopkeeper, bookkeeper, hr manager, marketing manager etc, has been big adjustment. Although I’m putting more hours, I’m happier and always look forward to coming to work.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?

Do your research first and go with the brand that has a good reputation and which has not reached its saturation point. Once you know what you want, be prepared to lose money initially as return on your investment will take time. The bottom line is, have a plan before you commit to anything.

What are your plans for the future?

The main focus for now is getting the basics right and to grow our customer base and in the long term I would like to expand and acquire two or three 3@1 franchises.

Would you do it again?

Most definitely!
