Col’Cacchio Pizza Pays it Forward

Top chefs at popular pizza franchise, Col’ Cacchio will this year be creating gourmet pizzas not just for the discerning palate, but for a good cause.

Col’Cacchio Pizzeria will again be producing their Celebrity Chef Pizza initiative that raises funds for Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

The initiative, which started in 2009, sees celebrity chefs creating their ultimate pizza, which is sold in-store for a limited time.

For each pizza made by the chefs, R5 is donated to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust – a fundraising section of the hospital.

Last year, the franchise raised R260 000 towards the building of the hospital’s bigger and better paediatric intensive care unit (ICU). The cost of the ICU upgrade is R100-million. A remainder of R7.5m is still needed to complete the project. When complete, the ICU will not only increase in size, but will boast state-of-the-art equipment to treat Africa’s sickest children, and will also be used for training.

Currently the hospital has 22 beds, when the project is complete, the new ICU will have 39 bed spaces and will include an urgently-needed 10-bed High Care Neonatal Unit and isolation cubicles.

Last year’s Celebrity Chef Series was comprised of well-known personalities, including Kamini Pather – the winner of Master Chef SA Season 2, sportsperson and former Springbok flyhalf, Butch James, cricketer JP Duminy and more.

Sheri Goldberg, marketing manager for the pizzeria, said for the past seven years the company had donated more than R1.4m to various hospital projects.

“It’s an incredible feeling to know that our suppliers, customers and staff are all able to help make a positive difference with considerable impact to the lives of those that need it most,” said Goldberg.

She commended the franchise customers, citing they were responsible for the success of the project.
